About

What? Another finance blog? Jeez-Louise, aren’t there enough of them out there already?

No. No there aren’t.

Plus, this one is different. I think it is anyway. Alright, look, so I haven’t had time to visit every single one of the thousands of finance blogs out there…but still, I think this one is different.

Well, of course I think it’s different.

I hope you’ll think so too. I hope you find this blog a great resource in understanding both basic and advanced investment vehicles, terms, strategies, theories and whatnot. I also hope you’ll find it more than a little entertaining. Just keep in mind, the content is meant to be a sort of glossy overview that makes finance more understandable. It is not meant to discuss all the possible dynamics and considerations of each financial topic–that’s a job for your financial advisor.

So, who the hell do I think I am?

I started working in the financial industry in 1999 when I took a job in a call center for the Macy’s family of credit cards. It was a terrible job, but I learned a lot about management, interest, and money working there. In 2000, I moved from credit cards to life insurance. Since then, I’ve become a licensed agent and I’ve been a life underwriter, supervisor, Director of Operations and Director of Marketing.

In 2007, I decided to move into stocks, bonds, mutual funds and the like and got my series 7 license and became a trader for the home office branch of Raymond James Financial Services.

Throughout my career, there have been aspects that I have loved. Educating clients and employees has always been my favorite part. Dealing with difficult, sad, upset, angry clients—not so much. Even when they’re right, it’s a terrible part of the job.

In April of 2009, I took this love for educating and started my own business and became a full time finance and insurance ghostwriter. Yup, that’s right, I left my comfortable, secure stock trading job and started my own business right in the middle of the worst economies in my entire working life.

So now I take my knowledge, and I throw it at you—with my voice, my humor, and my layman’s terms—the way that I wish I could have found it during the past 10 years. I’ll tell you upfront–I don’t know everything. There are so many aspects of the financial industry, I doubt many people do. What I do know, I know well. What I don’t know, I can learn fairly easily since I have such a solid background in the fundamentals.

I hope you guys will all share your knowledge and experience with us in the form of comments and emails.

Later taters.
